TalkingAge invited to Nextstep Conference
TalkingAge together with careers guidance, information and skills specialists met together at the South London Nextstep conference in July where TalkingAge hosted an interactive workshop.
The conference, introduced by Vic Grimes, the area director for the Learning and Skills Council, was to designed to help promote the coherent and integrated delivery of advice services for learning and work, not only in South London, but across the capital.
Though advice and guidance is often designed around young people, TalkingAge were delighted to be able to represent the case for employing older workers and their interactive workshop 'I'm 50, and I want to work' was one of the most popular and best attended at the conference.
TalkingAge Director Mel Clark, who hosted the workshop said, "It was great to be able to highlight the importance of the over 50s workforce to this important and influential group, and that there is a genuine need for information and careers guidance, not only for the young, but all parts of society. I think we really opened the eyes of some of the participants and I hope they take away the message that for employers everywhere, the over 50s represent a missed opportunity."
Conference organiser, Pat Fitzgerald commented, "TalkingAge certainly offered us a different perspective and that IAG professionals need to embrace the information and guidance needs of this age group."
